Robert Traylor, who played for the New Orleans Hornets from 2002-04, died Wednesday from a massive heart attack. He was 34.
Police in San Juan, Puerto Rico, said in a statement he was found dead on the bedroom floor of his oceanfront apartment. Traylor was playing for a professional team in team in Puerto Rico, the Bayamon Cowboys. According to published reports, he had been missing for a few days.
The 6-foot-8, 300-pound Traylor was drafted by the Dallas Mavericks with the sixth pick in 1998, but played for the Milwaukee Bucks his first two seasons. He spent seven years in the NBA. He played three seasons for the Hornets, including the first two in New Orleans after the franchise relocated from Charlotte, N.C.
Traylor’s final season in the NBA was during the 2004-05 season with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
