| June 8th, 2008 | Hornets to Begin Workouts on Tuesday |
Looks like the Bees are getting ready to plot their future:
I’m also beaming at this statement:
Scott knows what this team needs, and I expect that Bower will get him exactly that. I’ll assume that these are in priority-order, and I think we’ll be in a good spot at 27 to draft depth at any one of these positions. Maybe my Joey Dorsey wish will come true? We’ll see, but I think the list of players that are invited to workouts will tell much of the tale. Stay tuned! Posted in Uncategorized | No Comments »

| June 4th, 2008 | Draft Targets |
Noballer08’s early-stage draft board for the Hornets 1. Joey Dorsey, PF/C 6-9 2. Richard Hendrix, PF 6-8 250 3. Courtney Lee, SG 6-5 210 4. Jason Thompson, PF 6-10 250 The 6-10 big man out of Rider has been somewhat of an obscurity, but I was left impressed after looking at a few videos on Youtube. He’s got a bit of everything in him; perimeter saavy in the form of a sweet jumper that extends to the collegiate three, post moves, shotblocking, and rebounding. Physically, he has long arms and can jump pretty well for his size and position. He might not be the defender that Dorsey or Hendrix is, but if the team sees enough in him and he improves through the draft process I wouldn’t mind the pick. So, what can Bower and the rest of the front office do to continue to improve this squad?
Capping things off, I just want to say final cheers to the Hornets team for their spectacular season, and I want to wish them further success in the future. Posted in Uncategorized | No Comments »

| May 14th, 2008 | Chandler OK, Hornets Fined For Fire Incident |
John Reid of The Times-Picayune has some good news and some semi-discouraging news to report today. The good news is that Hornets center Tyson Chandler claims that he should be alright for Game 6.
The not-so-great news is that the New Orleans Hornets organization has been hit with a fine for the fire incident that occurred during halftime of Game 1 at New Orleans Arena.

| May 2nd, 2008 | Round 2: Hornets-Spurs Preview |
By Wesley O.
In order to be the best, you have to beat the best. That is what the Hornets have to keep in their minds throughout this entire series, because this is going to be another uphill battle. New Orleans did everything right against the Mavericks in the opening round, they must carry that level of play into the second round. Let’s break down the matchups. You got Tim Duncan going against either David West or Tyson Chandler depending on who Byron Scott wants to go with. Duncan has tremendous strength and shooting ability, so Chandler might have an advantage on West because of his larger frame, but don’t expect Duncan to be slowed down one bit. You got Peja Stojakovic taking on Bruce Bowen who is already known for his lock-down defense, but the Spurs most likely will have Bowen guarding Chris Paul throughout each game. Morris Peterson will try and out hustle Michael Finley and this could be the wild card matchup. Peterson was relatively quiet against the Mavericks, but with the Hornets most likely struggling to score points down the stretch, Morris will need to start hitting his shots to keep the momentum going. And last but not least, Chris Paul will duke it out with Tony Parker, a match made in heaven. Parker not only averaged close to 30 points per game against the Suns, he also held Steve Nash in check for most of that series. For Paul, it was his coming out party as he chipped in 24 points per game and 12 assists per game. Paul will be the main target for the Spurs’ defense, and if they can force the ball out of his hands and not let him get open looks, the Hornets could really struggle to keep up. The general consensus among most fans and experts right now is that the Spurs should have no trouble ending the Hornets’ magical season within five or six games, but don’t be surprised if the Hornets play just as well as they did against Dallas. New Orleans has a deeper bench, younger legs and a chip on their shoulders. All they have to do is keep Duncan in check and not allow Parker and Ginobili to drive and create shot opportunity for themselves. The Spurs must shutdown Paul, West, Stojakovic, Jannero Pargo and possibly Peterson in this series to advance all while keeping Chandler off the glass and away from the basket. Oh yeah, they also have to keep Bonzi Wells and Julian Wright from making impacts off the bench. I think you can see what I’m getting at here, the Hornets have too many weapons for the Spurs to defend. My prediction, the Hornets pull off the major upset in seven games. | April 19th, 2008 | Round 1: Hornets-Mavs Preview |
By Wesley O.
This is it, this is what we’ve been waiting for. We will now find out whether or not the Hornets’ 56-win season was a fluke. Ironically, the Hornets are facing a Mavericks team that won 67 games last season but were eliminated early in the first round by the Golden State Warriors. If New Orleans is to advance, they must limit their mistakes and fight until the very last possession each and every night. The Hornets and Mavericks split the season series at two games a piece, and both teams averaged similar team stats throughout the season, but that’s beside the point. Dallas has much more playoff experience and are built for a title run, while New Orleans is still raw and coming off a shaky finish to the regular season. Now, the Hornets do have some players that have been to the playoffs before such as Peja Stojakovic, Bonzi Wells and Morris Peterson, but the rest of the team has either never made it or have only had limited playing time in the postseason. Head coach Byron Scott has twice taken a team to the Finals before, and he can certainly do it a third time with this young squad. Still the question remains, will it be the Mavs who prevent the Hornets from advancing to the second round or themselves? My prediction, the Hornets win this series in seven games. By Wesley O. Just when you think someone or something is invincible, an event occurs that makes you think twice about it. For the Hornets, losing three of their last four games has people once again questioning whether or not this team can go deep in the playoffs. With two games remaining before the postseason, New Orleans must find a way to regain their confidence while staying healthy for what will be a very rough two-month stretch. To put it simpler, if the slump continues, New Orleans may not even be playing past the first week of playoff action. You always have to find the good in a bad situation, and the good news for this team is that they may not have such an uphill battle in the first round. The Lakers passed New Orleans in the standings and have gained sole possession of the first seed with one game remaining, meaning if the playoffs were to start today, Los Angeles would have to battle the high-scoring Nuggets while the Hornets would take on a not-so-tough Mavericks team. We all know that experience always conquers, but in this case, Dallas may actually have too much experience if you know what I mean. The Hornets could end up literally running them up and down the floor until they surrender, or puke.
So what would be the best scenario for the Hornets heading into the playoffs? It’s simple, pray for the Spurs to stay behind and for the Lakers to win their matchup with the Kings tonight. Oh yeah, did I mention they must win their next two games as well? So maybe it’s not really that simple, but the Hornets are in perfect position right now to play a much older team who has had trouble beating good teams this season, you can’t risk losing an opportunity like this. If New Orleans gets stuck with a team like Denver or Phoenix in the first round, they could be in deep trouble. The Week Ahead
This should be a bounce-back game for the Hornets, who understand that you won’t survive long in the playoffs if you can’t win easy games like this.
By the time this game tips off, the Hornet will most likely know who they’ll be facing in the first round and it will probably be the team they are playing. Whether or not Coach Scott rests his starters is up in the air at this point, but a win against a team that they are likely to face next week would certainly give them a boost of confidence. | April 8th, 2008 | Playoff Bound |
By Wesley O. The Hornets did everything right last week, and clinched themselves their first playoff berth in four years. The crazy week was capped off with an impressive performance against the Warriors on Sunday afternoon, in which Chris Paul led New Orleans with 16 points, 10 rebounds and 13 assists, he also had five steals as well. Now CP3 may not be the favorite to take home the MVP Award this year over guys like LeBron James and Kobe Bryant, but he certainly is an MVP in Hornets fan’s minds. Now, in no way is the regular season finished just yet. New Orleans still needs to hold off the countless other teams in the West who are all vying for that first seed which the Hornets currently occupy. If the Hornets can have another strong week and avoid dropping games, they can possibly keep that first spot come April 19 when the playoffs tip off.
The Week Ahead
Another heavy-weight bout between Chris Paul and Deron Williams, this one should be good, but the Jazz have experience on their side and will be playing hard as they look to jump over Los Angeles and San Antonio in the standings.
This should be an easy game, Minnesota is on a slump and are no match for the Hornets at this point.
This is a potential Western Conference Finals preview if I ever saw one. The Lakers are red hot, the Hornets are red hot, there’s no doubt that both of these teams will try and prove something on this night. The winner could potentially have the first seed locked down, while the loser may slip down the ladder once more.
The Kings have played well lately, winning four straight games before the Lakers snapped that streak on Sunday night. The Hornets better watch out, this could be a trap game. Posted in Uncategorized | No Comments »
